Dyer Baade advised Copper Street Capital on its majority investment in One Four Nine Group

Copper Street Capital backs One Four Nine Group to build a national UK wealth management platform

(London, October 2021) Dyer Baade & Company advised Copper Street Capital on its majority investment in One Four Nine Group, a newly launched independent financial advice and investment management group established to pursue an ambitious buy-and-build strategy in the UK wealth management market.

Copper Street Capital, a specialist private equity investor focused on European financial services, provided capital to support One Four Nine’s development into a nationwide financial advice and investment management platform.

The investment coincided with One Four Nine’s first two acquisitions: Charter Financial Planning and Rice Whatmough Crozier, both based in the North West of England. Together, the businesses advised more than 700 clients with approximately £300 million of assets under advice at the time of the transaction.

One Four Nine was founded with the objective of providing high-quality independent financial advice businesses with access to capital, central infrastructure and investment capabilities while allowing advisers to focus on delivering long-term outcomes for their clients.

The group was led by an experienced financial services management team under CEO Matthew Bugden and combined financial planning with an in-house discretionary investment management proposition.

For Copper Street Capital, the investment represented its first investment in the UK wealth management sector and provided exposure to a highly fragmented market with significant scope for both organic growth and selective acquisitions.

Jerry del Missier, Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Copper Street Capital, highlighted the structural opportunity created by fragmentation in the UK financial advice market and the quality of One Four Nine’s management team, strategy and ambition to build scale.

Dr Daniel Baade, CEO of Dyer Baade & Company and adviser to Copper Street Capital on the transaction, said: “We were pleased to advise Copper Street Capital on its investment in One Four Nine Group. The UK financial advice market presented a compelling opportunity for a well-capitalised platform with a clear strategy, strong management and the infrastructure required to execute acquisitions successfully. What made One Four Nine particularly interesting was that the investment thesis went beyond simply aggregating assets. The ambition was to build an integrated national wealth management business combining high-quality financial advice with central investment capabilities and operational scale. Copper Street brought both the financial resources and specialist financial services experience to support that strategy.”

Building a scalable wealth management platform

The transaction represented a private equity investment in the UK financial advice market and an example of institutional capital backing a purpose-built platform to pursue consolidation in a highly fragmented sector.

Dyer Baade & Company advised Copper Street Capital throughout the transaction, including sector analysis, strategic assessment of the opportunity, transaction structuring, commercial analysis, valuation and negotiations.

The mandate drew on Dyer Baade’s detailed knowledge of the UK wealth management sector and its experience assessing the strategic, commercial and financial characteristics required to create scalable acquisition platforms.

Since Copper Street’s original investment, One Four Nine Group has continued to execute its buy-and-build strategy. By April 2026, the group had completed 12 acquisitions and grown total client assets to approximately £2.2 billion, with more than 30 financial planners serving over 5,500 clients across the UK.
